Hello, I'm Melissa (she/her), a first-generation graduate deeply committed to using data as a catalyst for driving meaningful social change.
While my formal education led me to a degree in Mathematics-Statistics and Educational Studies from Columbia University in the City of New York, the true roots of my direction in life are deeply entwined with the stories and voices of my community. These experiences, and my strong connection to them, are the heartbeat of my work.
A significant part of my journey has been dedicated to partnering with non-profit organizations, employing data analysis as a driving force to address the pressing needs of our communities. My role as an Education Information Systems Coordinator at HoPe underscored the pivotal role of data in empowering underserved populations. Additionally, my internship experience at the American Civil Liberties Union introduced me to the potent fusion of data insights and legal expertise, allowing me to navigate intricate systems and instigate tangible change.
My current role as a research analyst at the Southern Regional Education Board propels my mission forward. Here, I contribute to initiatives like the HBCU-MSI Collaborative and the Academic Common Market, utilizing data analysis and research to guide policy implementation, informed decision-making, and a deeper understanding of our constituents' needs.
My aspiration is to channel my expertise in data manipulation, visualization, interpretation, and statistical testing to support and inform policies that directly address the entrenched inequalities within the education, immigration, and criminal justice systems.
Feel free to explore my portfolio here and on GitHub to see my projects in action. If you're prepared to embark on a journey of change through data, don't hesitate to get in touch with me at melissa.juarez@columbia.edu.
Together, let's create a future defined by positive social impact.
